Recognizing the significance of education and research in economic development, Maribor proudly holds the title of a "University City."
The university comprises 17 faculties, offering education in various fields such as agriculture, engineering, economics, education, law, and medicine. Its main campus is located in Maribor, with branches in other Slovenian cities.
The University of Maribor provides diverse facilities, including the University Library, student dormitories, Computer Center, Leon Štukelj Sports Center, and a Graduate and Guest Lecturer House.

The dorms offer free internet access, laundry services, fitness centers, outdoor sports areas, gyms, table tennis rooms, and an indoor swimming pool. Additionally, there are study and multimedia rooms, as well as spaces for extracurricular activities.
The university provides subsidized meals for students and visitors and organizes various entertainment events, such as annual balls, concerts, shows, and festivals.
The city of Maribor offers a rich and diverse cultural experience, hosting drama, opera, and ballet performances at the Slovenian National Theater Maribor, as well as numerous museums and galleries.
